another quick update

Sorry sorry sorry! I promise I'll post something longer and hopefully more substantial tomorrow. Been busy with lots of things lately. Besides work, have been working on a sideline job, organizing get-togethers, fixing my room, and planning my future (haha!).

As a preview of what I'll post tomorrow, and thinking about all my backlog entries, I'll be sharing with you some of the pictures I took with my babies, i.e. my film cameras. I have this weird fascination with using film and not knowing how my shots will look like after. Lomograpy/film photography is an expensive hobby, I know. But I love the thrill and anticipation of finding out if my shots were successful or not. And even if the shots don't turn out as pretty as I wanted them to be, I still like all the pictures that come out. I've had most of my films undeveloped for a year already which is why I was so excited to get the CDs in the mail last week. Thanks to Digiprint for developing and transferring the shots first on CD so I wouldn't waste more money printing shots I don't want to frame. Will be hanging a few of the nicer shots on my wall to add a bit of quirkiness to my room. Just to add, I love it that Digiprint develops different kinds of films for an affordable rate. First film costs Php 150 and the next 4 films cost Php 30 each!

I think if my Holga could talk, that's what it would be telling me. So I've decided to take my dear ol' Holga camera Smiley Cyrus out tomorrow. First I have to buy 120 mm film then I'll go around Ortigas tomorrow and take random shots. Then I'll run to the nearest Fujifilm then have the film developed which would probably take 2 days. One word: Excited!!

I started becoming fascinated with pre-nup photos when Jay-Jay, the boyfriend of my friend Tin started posting his works online. It amazed me how creative couples can be, and how wedding photography has been 'evolving'. I'd have to think that it'd be quite a daunting task to conceptualize pre-nup photos, especially if you're going for shots that would reflect you and your partner as a couple, but also showing each one's personality. I'm so thrilled that now you can actually have someone style your engagement shoot! Yes, there is now someone you can rely on for helping you conceptualize and execute your pre-nup photos! I would like to introduce to you my friend Tin, who is an Engagement Stylist. She is soooo good with what she does and when that day comes when I've met the right guy, I will definitely get Tin to by my pre-nup photo stylist! She really sits down with her clients and listens to what they want, but also she comes up with the most awesome themes I'm just amazed with the results.

Am still too tired to post my entry about my recent vacation in Malaybalay...so here's a glimpse at the beautiful things I saw there...

happy happy weekend

This weekend was just amazing. No, I didn’t go bungee jumping or do anything spectacular. I spent the weekend doing things I’ve never had the time to do for the past month. I started my weekend early so as I mentioned in my previous entry, I had my nails and hair done this Friday. On Saturday, I spent my morning at Lay Bare. In the afternoon, I met up with my friend Dianne so she could teach me how to use my Smena 8m Russian lomo. We were able to do a bit of catching up as well. Dianne and I talked about a lot of stuff. I had fun just hanging out, with Dianne’s hot chocolate and my lite dark mocha frappe (no whipped cream, of course) on our table, and us just chatting away. It’s a good thing I was able to meet up with Dianne. Unfortunately, her family also lost everything in the typhoon. They actually had to wade through the flood to be able to leave their home in Cainta. I feel like Dianne really needed to talk about it. I know it was hard for her to share what she went through, but I think talking about it relieved her a bit. On the lighter side, we talked about Glee—which happens to be my current favorite show. I’m so glad that there’s a show about the glee club. Finally, a show that isn’t about fashion, ‘popular’ kids, and what-not. I’m sick of that storyline. I guess that’s why I’m not so drawn to Gossip Girl and 90210. Anyway, I spent a good couple of hours with Dianne at the Starbucks in front of our univ. It’s been a while since I last visited Pearl Drive. My office is so near my former school but I really don’t have the time to visit it.

After my coffee date with Dianne, I picked up my friend Val at her house. It took me an hour before I was able to reach her house. Blame it on the horrendous traffic from Ortigas to Commonwealth. I knew I should’ve taken the UP route. Anyway, Val and I wasted no time so after I picked her up we started our trip to Tagaytay—which is a good 2 hours away from Manila (coming from her place). Thank God traffic at EDSA was a bit light. We arrived at Tagaytay around 9 p.m. Val and I decided to have dinner at Café Platito, one of the restaurants at Cliffhouse. Good thing we stayed there since the ambiance was relaxing and conducive for good conversations. I had steak and fries for dinner. Hahaha, I know I’m supposed to be on a diet but I couldn’t resist just having a decent meal for dinner. It’s been a while since I’ve eaten steak, might as well indulge a bit. Val had the tuna sandwich since the other fish dishes weren’t available. The food was okay, nothing spectacular that I’d really rave about. But the entire feel of the place was really nice. I’m giving Café Platito 3 out of 5 stars. They can improve on the food, but the ambiance made up for it.

Val and I were supposed to have dessert and coffee at Café Breton (right across Café Platito), but we were informed it’d close at 11 and it was already 10:30 so we decided to just go to one of the Starbucks—I think the one across Josephine’s. Val and I just chatted the night away. We spent a good 4 hours just talking about a lot of things, sipping on our hot coffee, and almost freezing to death because it was so cold! I miss the cool weather of Tagaytay already. It’s been awfully hot here in Manila—which is a good thing, I think. With the floods and all…the Sun is very-much appreciated by us Manilans.

Today’s a Sunday, and I spent the entire morning sleeping. My little cousins arrived this afternoon, and I spent the rest of the day with them. I love it that this weekend was so relaxing. I’m looking forward to next weekend because I’ll be (finally) seeing my friends and we’re going off for another photo-adventure.

Manila, Manila...Angono, Angono!

Over dinner, I was telling my friend (poeta fit, non nascitur) earlier about a picture that another friend took a couple of weeks ago when we went on a random photo shoot at Intramuros and the bayside (here in Manila). I'm so in love with this shot. It's so beautiful that it makes you wonder if it's a real shot or not.

Another picture I like (taken by the same friend who took the first picture) was of the gate to Fort Santiago. Fort Santiago is located inside Intramuros--where most of the Spaniards lived when they were still here in the Philippines (we were Spain's colony from 1516 until 1898...I'm not sure about 1516, but I do know we became a colony of Spain some time in the 1500s). Of course my friend fiddled with the settings of her camera to get this shot, but I absolutely love this picture.



Another favorite shot (I have a lot of favorite shots, actually. Hahaha) is of me while I was fixing my Holga. I think this was inside the Rizal Museum (also in Intramuros).



I'm excited for my next photo adventure (which will be next week). Off we'll go to Angono! Hopefully, I'll be able to post pictures taken using my Holga .It's quite expensive to have lomography as a hobby. You spend quite a lot on film and having it developed. I have 3 rolls of film that have yet to be developed, and I have 3 or 4 more that have yet to be used. Am excited to shoot once again! I could walk around Ortigas during the day and take pictures, but the weather's too unpredictable nowadays that I'd rather stay inside the office than stroll outside during my breaks.
